Eastbound 10 Freeway near Redlands closed after termination of pursuit

The eastbound lanes of the 10 Freeway near Redlands were shut down Tuesday evening while a police investigation was underway after the termination of a vehicle pursuit.

Around 7 p.m., officers from the Fontana Police Department attempted a vehicle check on a driver at a McDonald’s on the 3800 block of Sierra Avenue, near the 15 Freeway, said Fontana Officer Steven Reed. During the check, a shooting occurred before the suspects took off in their vehicle.

It was not immediately known who fired their weapon, Reed said. No officers were injured.

The pursuit ended around 7:30 p.m. after officers performed a pit maneuver on the vehicle on the 10 Freeway, at Tennessee Street. Two occupants in the vehicle were transported to a hospital. Information on the extent of their injuries, how they were injured, or if more people were in the suspects’ vehicle was not immediately available.

All eastbound lanes on the freeway at Tennessee Street were closed by 7:35 p.m., California Highway Patrol logs said, and motorists were advised by Caltrans to take alternate routes.

At 8:54 p.m. the CHP log said the eastbound closure would begin just west of Alabama Street, with traffic diverted to the 210 Freeway.
